Ever since my grandfather gave me an all manual Agfa Silette film camera as a teenager i have been fascinated by photography, but it is only in more recent years, after switching to digital, that i have really started to develop this passion. My job as a London cycle courier for more than 20 years has taken me to all corners of the city, and given me a unique perspective on the huge variety of photographic opportunities that can be found there. While travelling in Brazil in 2000 i met and fell in love with my Brazilian wife,  who is a native of the state of Ceara in the North East of the country, where we got married. As a result we go back to Brazil as often as possible to visit family and friends, and also to travel around to the various states that make up the North East region, the part of Brazil i most love. 
My photographic philosophy has always been to take images for myself, by which i mean not feeling swayed or pressured to shoot a certain place or subject in a particular way because that's what's in vogue, or what others want to see. I love to be  outdoors, exploring familiar or new areas and maybe even getting some images as well, but the most important part is to enjoy the beauty of my surroundings. Sometimes you can come away with several good images, and other times not even one, but it shouldn't matter. It's never a wasted journey.
The majority of the images in these galleries, with the exception of Venice, were taken with a digital camera, but i have included several photos that i took with film - either black and white or colour slide, which were then scanned. Ultimately it is not important which medium or what camera you use, and even though i now use a digital camera most of the time, i still have a a variety of film cameras that i occasionally shoot with. Sadly the Agfa Silette is no longer much use as the manual focusing ring has totally seized up, but i still keep it to remind myself where my lifelong passion for photography started.
